Where design becomes emotion, and stories shape experience.

MetaLiminal didn’t begin as a business—it began as a feeling. A tension between disciplines. A desire to create something deeper than visuals or strategy alone. Founded by Santiago Cárdenas, a multidisciplinary designer and storyteller based in Bogotá, MetaLiminal operates in the in-between—where identity, technology, and culture converge.

What Santiago built is more than a studio. It’s a creative space for transformation, shaped by research, emotion, and a belief that design is a tool for connection.

Designing from the Threshold

At MetaLiminal, the work moves fluidly across mediums: branding becomes narrative, sound becomes strategy, a social feed becomes an atmosphere. Santiago doesn’t offer a menu of services—instead, each project becomes a custom-made ecosystem where form, function, and feeling work together.

“We create identities, craft emotional narratives, and build experiences that live across sound, image, and space,” he says. “Everything we do is grounded in intention—rooted in research, but driven by intuition.”

From visual systems to immersive interfaces, each output is the result of a process that blends curiosity, cultural insight, and storytelling. It’s work that’s designed to feel—alive, relevant, and resonant.

Q&A: Behind the Scenes with Santiago

What inspired you to create MetaLiminal?

It came from wanting to create freely, without having to separate all the different parts of myself—designer, DJ, storyteller, researcher. I wanted to explore that in-between space where ideas could evolve organically.

How do you approach new projects?

I start with references—images, sounds, books, even memories. Then I let the concept grow around a feeling. I treat each project like a world: layered, emotional, and built with purpose.

What does the word “metaliminal” mean to you?

It’s about going beyond the threshold—not just existing between things, but actively transforming them. That’s where I want to work: in reflective, imaginative, future-facing spaces.

How do you balance creativity with clarity?

By treating emotion and logic as collaborators. I trust my intuition to lead the way, but I’m always refining. Everything has to be meaningful—nothing is there just to look pretty.

A Creative Practice for the Future

With Santiago at the helm, MetaLiminal is evolving into more than a studio—it’s a creative methodology. One that challenges conventions, embraces fluidity, and invites people into deeper, more conscious design experiences.

In a world that often prioritizes speed over meaning, MetaLiminal reminds us that creativity can be strategic and soulful. That storytelling isn’t just a tool—it’s a way of building something real, one idea at a time.
